January 6th is a big day, not only because of the EC vote and all that entails, but it is the day that the visit of the wise men to the Christ Child or Yeshua the Messiah, bringing their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They come with the realization that they are bringing gifts to a KING! The Feast of Epiphany or 12th day, thus the 12 days of Christmas, celebration is a big day in many churches. We had a friend who was of the Greek Orthodox faith, and this was the big celebration day for him and his family for Christmas. It is a big day, the day The Christ Child was revealed as KING!
Who were these wise men, or Magi? Where did they come from? When did they actually come to visit Jesus, Mary, and Joseph?…
Christmas eve in WI and ND often led to quiet snowfalls on Christmas Eve. One of my favorite memories and I can still hear the snowflakes landing, is of the quiet gentle snowfalls that would be happening as we got home from the Christmas Eve Candlelight Services. There would be no wind, the temperature would be just above freezing, and the snowflakes were big, fluffy, and slowly falling. It would be so quiet you could hear them land.
The moonlight, streetlight, or yard light would backlight the scene. It was gorgeous. The stars would twinkle so bright because of the crystalline air, the snow on the ground looked like diamond fields, and the air was so still. I would head out to the barn to feed the animals and half anticipate they would speak to me.
Another Christmas Eve memory: We lived in Green Bay, WI, come to find out that our neighbor man had a Santa Suit and the neighborhood adults would give him the presents to deliver to the homes the neighborhood. Then on Christmas Eve, he would go to the homes in the neighborhood delivering the presents. As a child, I did not know how this was done it was so amazing and fun.
One year my mother’s parents had come from ND to WI to be with us for Christmas. As we were visiting after supper, the doorbell rang. Mom or Dad answered the door and there stood Santa Clause with his bag on his shoulder. I don’t know who squealed louder us kids or Grandma!!! She was so excited!
The gifts were distributed but for some reason, we all walked out to the driveway to watch him walk away.
Joyous season to everyone! May YHVH’s LIGHT shine bright through me into this dark world. Amen
Friday morning early…I am holed up under the dining room table, with my vest, helmet, and weapon, ready to rock-n-roll. I just hope I can hold them all off. There are so many of them the pops, booms, bangs are all around me and never end! The assault on the dogs of the world once again commences. I cannot even get outside to take care of business. The bangs send me running for cover with out being able to squat. I hope I survive the night…
Now wait, what is this I hear…My hoomins are stirring early. What’s going on? I see bags and gear, the door is open, they come and go and they are packing my car trunk! They are even packing my survival kit. Wait, is the great escape underway???? Boom! Bang! Run! Oh, they pick me up and take me…
Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the February 22, 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Hockey Game between USA and USSR. Do you remember where you were when that game was played? I was home in our living room watching the game with my family. I was a senior in high school, R. Reagan was President, and life was pretty good. I even saved the 1980 Olympic mascot picture and a newspaper clipping reporting on that game to my senior year memory book.
The I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) puts restrictions on how these clips can be watched, you may have to click through to YouTube to watch them.
Then the team went out and struggled through that hard hitting game and it came down to the last few seconds for the win to be obtained. The game was a hard hitting, fast moving, and many (37) goal shots by USSR were blocked. The players were beat up and tired. Finally, they were victorious!
We forget that to achieve that victory there was a lot of hard work, tiredness, hurt, and heart ache behind it. The boys or young men at the time hated it, hated the coach, and thought is was ridiculous that they, college champion hockey players, had to go through the rigor of these “basic” drills. The assistant coach and team doctor tried to get Coach Brooks to ease up on the players. Herb was not having it, he knew his players would need the stamina and strong legs to get them through all of the Olympic games they would play. He knew the severity of the upcoming battles.
As I watched these clips that a dear brother in Christ sent me via text Saturday morning, I was given an epiphany that spurred the writing of this post. I ask you to watch the clips again. Really listen. Really watch. What are you hearing? What do you see?
What did I hear? I heard God reminding me of His Promises and His Faithfulness in my life all these years. He was reminding me of the road in my life has led me up to the times such as these (Esther 4:14) where I would be teamed up with others to achieve God’s goals. He showed me the hard and trying life circumstances that I went through and are going through are drill exercises and discipline to strengthen my spiritual muscles and heart to be able to finish the course (Hebrews 12:1 and 1 Corinthians 9:24-27). God’s drills and discipline while painful and tiring to go through are implemented out of love for me as his child. He desires to see me finish the course set before me strong and as an over comer (Job 5:16-18, Proverbs 3:10-12, and Hebrews 12: 4-17).
What did I see? I saw athletes pushed to their limits thinking they could not go on another leg stroke of the skate yet they got up and did it again and again (Deuteronomy 8:35, Job 5:17, Proverbs 19:20, 1 Corinthians 11:32, 1 Timothy 4:7-8, Hebrews 12:4-11, and Revelation 3:18-20). They unified as a team not individuals with individual talents. They became one unit under the headship of Coach Brooks (1 Corinthians 12:12-25).
I saw the hockey players in their uniforms looking like warriors in their armor heading into battle. In those uniforms I saw the spiritual armor I am to wear each day (Ephesians 6: 10-20).
When the players fist bumped the wall of telegrams they were acknowledging they are there because of the support and good wishes of others. They were going to out to play that game for something bigger and more than just them (Philippians 1:1-11, Colossians 1:1-12, and the book of 1 Thessalonians.
Victory came after all the hard work, acknowledgement of the support of others, and then the winning goal. The gold medals were given to the players. While faithful servants and over comers for Christ will receive a golden crown (Isaiah 43:2-5, John 16:33, 1 Corinthians 15, I Peter 5, and Revelation 2:9-11 and 3:10-12) and be told “well done” (Matthew 25: 20-22).
All the American political turmoil, the fires in Australia, the amount of people I am familiar so ill with cancers or other major illnesses, and the injustice in the US justice system has had me in fits of anger. I have laid my anger before YHVH and prayed for guidance. The following Scriptures in the order presented are what YAH led me to for counsel. This is a high standard to live, but it is what our LORD and Savior calls me to do:
Matthew 5:43-45 AMP
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor (fellow man) and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].
God will see to things:
Romans 12:19 Amplified Bible (AMP)
19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Here is where “it is written” that Paul was talking about:
Deuteronomy 32:35 Amplified Bible (AMP)
35‘Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip;
For the day of their disaster is at hand, And their doom hurries to meet them.’
I will stand on that promise!!!! Praying that God hears my prayers for the defeat of our enemies. Meanwhile, being nice to them and praying for them does this:
Romans 12:19-21 Amplified Bible (AMP)
19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this you will heap [a]burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome and conquered by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:20 This may refer to an ancient Egyptian custom in which a penitent person carried a bowl of burning embers on his head to show his shame and guilt. By analogy, being kind to an enemy may lead him to shame and repentance.
Again, here is where “it is written” that Paul writes about
Proverbs 25:20-22 Amplified Bible (AMP)
20 Like one who takes off a garment in cold weather, or like [a reactive, useless mixture of] vinegar on soda, Is he who [thoughtlessly] sings [joyful] songs to a heavy heart.
21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 For in doing so, you will [a]heap coals of fire upon his head, And the Lord will reward you.
These were my thoughts as POTUS and team are working to right the wrongs done to this country while we were bamboozled. Prayers for POTUS and FLOTUS as they host the ball for Governor’s Association on February 8, 2020.
I hope I can live up to the Standard My Master, Savior, and King calls me to. Let’s us pray for a change of heart and mind in ourselves and for our countries. May YHVH’s freedom be for all that come to repentance and call upon HIS Name, the Name that is above all names. I can do it this way:
Some different Feast of Dedication thoughts. I think on things like this and seek rededication of my life to being Yeshua ‘s HaMasiach’s faithful servant during this Feast of Dedication. Romans 12 is a good reminder of this truth.
The Maccabean story is preserved in the books of theFirstandSecond Maccabees, which describe in detail the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem and the lighting of themenorah. These books are not part of theTanakh(Hebrew Bible) which came from the Jewish canon; however, they were part of the Alexandrian canon which is also called theSeptuagint(sometimes abbreviated LXX).Both books are included in theOld Testamentused by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, since those churches consider the booksdeuterocanonical. They are not included in theOld Testamentbooks in mostProtestantBibles since most Protestants consider the booksapocryphal.
Why the revolt? Because the government was telling the Jewish people they could not practice their religion. The traditionalists of the Jewish ways were standing up to…
I am having such a good time during my high school prom that my date actually thinks I am drunk. He keeps taking me outside to walk. I kept wondering why we were out walking instead of inside dancing. During our walks, I look up and the night sky is beautiful, clear, and starry. Being drunk was not the issue. I was just giddy with excitement! He did not get it. Oh well, such is life!
On the way to taking my classmate’s and my date home, they both were Brazilian exchange students and could not drive, the Aurora Borealis pops out. It burst from behind the hills like a brightly lit crown. The light was finger like and splayed in an arc across the horizon like the Statue of Liberty’s crown. What a sight. I don’t recall ever seeing such a display by the Northern Lights or Aurora…
John 8:12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am thelightof the world. He who follows Me shall not walk indarkness, but have thelightof life.”
Luke 1:76-7976 “And you, child (John the Baptizer*), will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the [j]Dayspring from on high [k]has visited us; 79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” *my note
