That summer day was sunny, a cool breeze was blowing, and the sky was a brilliant blue, with fluffy clouds that floated freely as Grandma, and I sat down under the crab apple tree in her backyard to rest from the hubbub of the auction. The bees’ buzzing blended into the auctioneer’s drone. The hornet trap caught my eye, and I hoped it worked as well as the bid catcher’s yups caught the bids. The large items were all sold off, and the big battle over her steamer trunk was over. Now it was time to sit back as the “dollar” boxes found new homes.
A strand of hair blew into my mouth. As I lowered my hand from pushing it back into place, she reached out and took my hand. It caught my attention as she had not been an openly demonstrative or affectionate Grandma. Grandma lovingly patted our joined hands, with a pat-pat she sealed our bond. I turned to smile at her. Then I turned to look down at our hands. I took in the family likeness. My hands have the same long straight fingers, more full palms, and the prominent veins on the back of the hands. Her hands were always generous. I remember those hands picking strawberries, and cooking, what flavorful meals came from those hands. With those hands, she taught me to play cards. She always welcomed me holding her hands out in welcome to her home and arms. As I would load into the backseat of the car leaving her house, I would see her waving a fond farewell.
Even though I would never return to this place that held so many memories, under that apple tree holding Grandma’s hand, I knew the depth of her love and received her good-bye. She knew that an end of an era was here, leukemia was the highest bidder for her life.

Isaiah 40 New King James Version (NKJV)
God’s People Are Comforted 40 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God. 2 “Speak [a]comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned; For she has received from the Lord’s hand Double for all her sins.”3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight [b]in the desert A highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made [c]straight And the rough places smooth; 5 The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” 6 The voice said, “Cry out!” And [d]he said, “What shall I cry?”“All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” 9 O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” 10 Behold, the Lord God shall come [e]with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His [f]work before Him. 11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young. 12 Who has measured the [g]waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a [h]span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or as His counselor has taught Him? 14 With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. 16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering. 17 All nations before Him are as nothing, And they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless. 18 To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him? 19 The workman molds an image, The goldsmith overspreads it with gold, And the silversmith casts silver chains. 20 Whoever is too impoverished for such[i]a contribution Chooses a tree that will not rot; He seeks for himself a skillful workman To prepare a carved image that will not totter. 21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. 23 He [j]brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless. 24 Scarcely shall they be planted, Scarcely shall they be sown, Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, When He will also blow on them, And they will wither, And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble. 25 “To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Push back up…rise to the surface…breakthrough…exhale…inhale a large breath of YHVH’s Life Giving Ruach, God’s living Holy Spirit…walk out refreshed, renewed, and soaring up on wings like an eagle’s… Come ride the wind of the Holy Spirit with me to soar onward and upward! Come, Prayer Warriors ride the Wind of the Ruach, God’s Holy Spirit! HalleluYah! Praise God!

A Kal and bren family adventure, an introductory chapter
In the Summer of 1994 our family set out for a 6 week camping adventure. Leaving from Jamestown, North Dakota we toured to Bozeman, Montana, out to Merrillville, IN and back to Jackson Hole, WY. Our son was 11 years old and this was Sir Kal and bren’s honeymoon trip. We had a new pop-up or tent camper and pickup. We both worked for the school system and had the summer off.
Last day of school!!! Time to hit the road! So, all we needed and more was tossed, as only a 11 year old and friends can do, into the pickup topper. We and our two mini schnauzers headed out. First stop was the…
Just by asking questions and waiting for answers we get a glimpse into a person’s life. In that last few days I have asked questions of two ladies participating here in support of *.*. I have learned bits about interior design from WSB as she shared about monochromatic color schemes, the history behind the use of one color, and a young architects works.
In talking to CV, I learned she was a piano and voice teacher. On top of her being a wife of a college professor and fine hostess.
The Piano Lesson 1916 by Henri Matisse
the music lesson by Henri Emile Benoit Matisse
Even BMT joking around about minions reminding her of Twinkies and these are Twinkies by the ocean she says. This gave me pause when listening to music today, the song was Cake by the Ocean, by DNCE
Well, by asking questions and reading their answers not…
As you can see the highway is not busy. It is a long, straight, and hot summer’s drive. As it was familiar territory we took to entertaining ourselves. Shortly before school had gotten out Ant had read a Garfield cartoon book by Jim Davis. Evidently, the book had a series of pages where Garfield would spend the day imitating animals. So, with a giggle his blond head would duck down. Then we would hear a named animal and that animal’s sound in varied styles and volume levels. Ant could go on for miles doing this. The other family self entertainment was the listing of side kicks for the super hero’s side kick. If Robin had a side…
We are all one in Christ and when one part of the body suffers we all suffer, when one has joy we all rejoice. Let us not draw apart and withhold our gifts from each other. Let us be as Paul taught the new bodies of believers to be in Corinth and Phillipa. Jesus during his time on earth had to deal with growing pains too! How are those growing pains relieved?
Paul teaches to the believers in Corinth that there are Many Members, One Body
I Corinthinas 12 (King James Version) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink…
Kal and I worked for The Salvation Army in Minneapolis, MN in the winter of 1996. During that time we worked with a group of bell ringers at the red kettles at two malls in the suburbs. I was posted with a crew of 16 bell ringers at the Mall of America. One of the bell ringers was a survivor of carbon monoxide poisoning and had residual physical and mental difficulties. He was named Thaddeus, like one of the disciples. He was a sweet, dedicated, elderly man. His station was at one of the doors to Macy’s. One day while on my rounds of checking on the men ringing bells, I came across him in an embarrassing condition. He had lost control of his bladder. I was at a loss as to what to do for him. I did the only thing I knew to do….PRAY. I asked God to…

Well, now we are in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming, and this chick is uncertain how to handle the truck and camper pulling, so I ask Kal to teach me to safely drive curved mountain roads. He pointed out the issues of towing and corners and told me to hug the top of the arc no matter what direction the curve was going. With those simple and practiced directions I was off and relief driving through the mountains. I had a ball driving something else other than long straight roads. The scenery was beautiful and the places…
In the ’80’s I was in and organization that was called Jaycee Women. Each year the president of the local club would pick a theme for the year. The second year I was a member, the theme picked by president Jayne I. was “bloom where you are planted.” I have always struggled with that concept because I feel like a tumble weed. I always feel like I want to be some where else.
Why does a tumble weed roll? It rolls because it has broken off from its roots and it is then driven by the wind. How does a tumble weed stop rolling? The tumble weed stops rolling when it gets snagged or caught on an obstacle. Does a tumble weed really produce or make anything productive? No, it just throws off thistle seeds along the way and is taken from the fence it is caught on and burned. My maternal grandmother told of a difficult and ugly chore she remembered as a child having to gather them so they could be burned.
I have felt broken off from my roots for several years now as my family has moved apart, my son was in the military and had to be moved long distances away, and then I did something in my faith life that put my soul into a winter season. Here’s how the winter season started and the tumble weed feeling persisted. I was called into a service organization ministry position along side my husband. I was feeling on fire for God and wanted to serve HIM doing so much for the kingdom. I prayed that God would let me love as He loved and see the world through His eyes. God, YHVH, was gracious to answer that prayer. The times that followed got rough as I saw the world through HIS eyes and it broke my heart. I cried often, got angry, and wanted to administer justice. It hurt to see the world hurting, abused, misused, and maligned. So, I prayed a dangerous prayer. I asked God to take that from me, if serving HIM meant all this hurt and sorrow then I did not want it. Again, HE was gracious enough to answer my prayer.
Oh, what an emptiness and frozen feeling that entered me! I felt all out of touch with God and did not even understand some Scripture passages anymore. I was Vashti, from the book of Esther, disobeying the King’s summons. I was the prodigal son, Jonah, and Esau all rolled into one. It was years of wandering in a wilderness looking for the Lover of my soul. Many things happened in life and much hurt as the years passed.
Fast forward to a few months ago. I was participating on a blog site that was in support of a man that had entered hospice and there some ladies were sharing beautiful garden and bird feeding pictures. I thought I would like my life to be like that beautiful garden, not this run away thistle throwing tumble weed that I have become. God answered that wistful prayer by connecting me with another participant on that site and we had many good exchanges about life and faith as we completed virtual tours of properties he makes portfolios of for potential buyers. The second night of the virtual tour given, YAH melted the winter of my soul and quickened the Holy Spirit back to me. It is like the verse from Song of Solomon or Song of Songs chapter 2 The Bride’s Admiration …10 My beloved calls to me, “Arise, my darling. Come away with me, my beautiful one. 11 Fornowthe winteris past;the rainis overand gone.12 The flowers have appeared in the countryside; the season of singing has come, and the cooing of turtledoves is heard in our land.…
The dormant bulb I had become was now beginning to burst forth and grow. What a wondrous feeling. Then one of the other blog users, on the same sight, said that I was such a good person to be where I was and doing what I was doing to care for and be with my husband who has many health issues. Then Yah, God, put back in my head the theme from my past Jaycee woman president, “bloom where you are planted”. I had not done that at all, even when it was the theme for that year many years ago. I had been the one with my wanderlust spirit that had stifled Yah’s work in me. I was the one who would wander off and have to be brought back to the fold by the Good Shepherd. I have always admired this print by Warner Sallman.
I have heard that this little lamb was being disciplined, for wandering off. His legs had to be broke by the Shepherd. Then the shepherd had to carry the lamb, feed and water it, and nurse it back to health. Then when the legs are healed the lamb will stay with the shepherd. Knowing that endeared this painting to me even more. Yah needed to break my legs, and HE did, yet he nurtured me back to health. I was well on to my staying with the Shepherd! Now, I knew what it meant to be blooming where I was planted. I needed to be settled mentally as well as physically in any place that Yah had brought me to. Now my garden it beginning to bloom and people are telling me that they can sense my spirit in my contacts with me. I have to say, it is God’s Holy Spirit in me that leads me to post what I do that touches people. I play, get cheeky, up hold others in prayer, share Scripture, and joy. It is a veritable garden of joy again in my life. Thanks be to God and blog friends you all broke the ground to allow my sprout to break forth into a beautiful garden. I am the branch, He is the vine and without being connected to HIM I can do nothing. From John 15 Jesus the True Vine …4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. 5 Iamthevineand you arethe branches. The one whoremainsinMe,and Iinhim, will bear muchfruit.Forapart fromMeyou candonothing.6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.… I close with this song which now means so much more to me. Thank you friends for being the flowers, butterflies, and gardeners in this garden of my life. Glory be to the faithful and true Gardener or Husbandman, my God, Savior, and soon coming King, Yeshua.
YHVH, God, Elohim, Creator of all that is seen and unseen has called his people to be lights in this dark world. Why would he use that simile? Because He gave us the picture of the eternal light and how it is to operate in our lives in the beginning of the Book. He wanted HIS light to carry through out the whole world and after Yeshua, Jesus ascended into heaven HE left HIS Holy Spirit in us to be the light into the dark world.
On Mountain Sinai The complete directions for the making of the Tabernacle and all of it’s articles as Elohim told Moshe are recorded in Exodus 24-31. Specific directions for forming of the Lampstand or menorah are given in Exodus 25: 31-40.
The Gold Lampstand
25:31 “You shall also make a lampstand of pure gold; the lampstand shall be of hammered work. Its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and flowers shall be of one piece.32 And six branches shall come out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side. 33 Three bowls shall be made like almond blossoms on one branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower, and three bowls made like almond blossoms on the other branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower—and so for the six branches that come out of the lampstand. 34 On the lampstand itself four bowls shall be made like almond blossoms, each with its ornamentalknob and flower. 35 And there shall be a knob under the first two branches of the same, a knob under the second two branches of the same, and a knob under the third two branches of the same, according to the six branches that extend from the lampstand. 36 Their knobs and their branches shall be of one piece; all of it shall be one hammered piece of pure gold. 37 You shall make seven lamps for it, and they shall arrange its lamps so that they give light in front of it. 38 And its wick-trimmers and their trays shall be of pure gold. 39 It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. 40 And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.
20 “And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to [a]burn continually. 21 In the tabernacle of meeting, outside the veil which isbefore the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening until morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever to their generations on behalf of the children of Israel.
The menorah, made from a single piece of solid gold, stands in the southern side of the Sanctuary. Each morning a priest prepares and rekindles the wicks. The central wick, known as “the western candle” is required to burn perpetually. The oil and wicks of this candle are changed in such a fashion as to insure that it will never be extinguished.
Why the Lampstand now?
The Temple is gone and we don’t go to Jerusalem for feasts, so why the lampstand now? Why did Jesus or Yeshua call us to be lights of the world?Because the lamp was to be a perpetual light. We are the temples now, the HOLY SPIRIT in us is YHVH’s perpetual light shining out into the dark world. We are to be lampstands bringing light to a dark place.
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
2 Peter 2:5 (NKJV) 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:14-16(NKJV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
We are to shine YHVH’s light through our good works and glorify our ABBA or Father in heaven. We need to not only believe but have hands reaching out to our fellow man and hearts reaching up to glorify or praise our God, YHVH.
James 2:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works.
May your light shine forth to others as we walk in the light of Yeshua HaMashiach who is the light of the world and without HIM we walk in darkness. May our lives be living sacrifices shining HIS light into this dark world. May HE give you HIS grace to do so in these trying days.
Reach out to your neighbor, family, stranger, co-worker and offer up an encouraging word and smile. Do what you can to reach out to others so you can shine to illuminate your part of the world.
